XenServer distributed virtual switching (DVS) Private beta #OPEN#

Written by Thomas Poppelgaard. Posted in XenServer

Distributed virtual switching functionality extends the XenServer product line with:

  • Greater visibility into the networking layer of the XS virtualization platform via standard tools and processes, including RSPAN and NetFlow.
  • Distributed, fine grained networking configuration and control policies, including ACLs and QoS, that apply across VM migrations.

By participating in the Program, you will recieve:
 1. Early access to the DVS technology components
 2. A dedicated support contact from the XenServer engineering team
 3. Direct input into product requirements for future versions

apply here http://www.citrix.com/lang/English/lp/lp_1340047.asp

Testing will take place 12 July – 6 August, 2010. Expected time commitment is approximately 1/4 of one person’s time, although depending on your organization you may want to include both virtualization and networking specialists.

XenApp Connector for Configuration Manager 2007 R2 – Released

download here

XenApp Connector for System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 enables Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, which helps you deploy and publish applications to XenApp servers. XenApp Connector requires XenApp server farms running XenApp 6 for Windows 2008 R2.

For XenApp servers managed by the Power and Capacity Management feature, XenApp Connector uses the Power and Capacity Management Concentrator to coordinate the power states and load consolidation of farm servers when sending Configuration Manager advertisements and installing applications.

XenApp Connector has two components:
  • XenApp Data Connector
  • Configuration Manager Console Extension

XenApp Data Connector

XenApp Data Connector is the bridge between the XenApp farm and Configuration Manager. It manages XenApp server collections in Configuration Manager and gathers configuration data defined in the Configuration Manager console to configure XenApp servers. XenApp Data Connector manages XenApp servers and gathers farm data using the XenApp 6 PowerShell SDK.

Configuration Manager Console Extension

Configuration Manager Console Extension extends the Configuration Manager console to provide a graphical user interface enabling you to deploy applications to XenApp servers and publish XenApp hosted applications. Install Configuration Manager Console Extension on the same server as the Configuration Manager console.

XenApp Connector for Configuration Manager 2007 R2 supports XenApp 6 for Windows Server 2008 R2, Platinum and Enterprise editions.

The XenApp Connector components, XenApp Data Connector and Configuration Manager Console Extension, can be installed on a single server or on different servers.

Supported Windows operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
Requirements:
  • Windows PowerShell 2.0
  • Task Scheduler 2.0
XenApp Data Connector requires connectivity to:
  • Computer running XenApp 6 Powershell SDK
  • Configuration Manager site server
  • Power and Capacity Management Concentrator

Configuration Manager Console Extension

Supported Windows operating systems:
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

Configuration Manager Console Extension requires Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2.

Hi Steve normal I install the GRID driver to device and when its workin, I disable the default VGA device.

Have you applied latest hotfix to the XS6.1 there are some crucial hotfixes to the GPU pass-through, that could crash the GRID’s, when you power on a VM with GPU pass-through.

Just a quick question on your setup. We just got a system similar to yours (R720, 2xGrid K2 cards, XenServer 6.1, XenApp 6.5). The GRID K2 driver installs (320.00), but the device shows up as stopped in device manager. Did you use any special options when installing the nVidia driver? Or somehow remove the default VGA device?

Hi Thomas,
Some features in your screenshots (eg create appointments and contacts) seem to be missing from the iOS version of @WorkMail that got released in April, do you know if these features are still coming in a future release? The Android client is far more functional by comparison.

Dan

You can see the DHCP options here:

http://www.wyse.com/kb and search for 21501

You can transfer a image using Wyse Device Manager(WDM), the same goes for smaller updates like new ICA client and so.

Thank you Barry =)
The deep compression codec for Citrix XenDesktop HDX 3D Pro will be intergrated for Citrix XenApp in Excalibur so there is a big difference with bandwidth consumption. This means that XenApp in Excalibur will be the best platform for user density and works great over WAN with high latency as HDX 3D Pro have been known to deliver for several years. Yes i know of cases with WAN optimization, I will gather these and share them.

Best regards
Thomas
