XenDesktop Session State Monitor Tool

Written by Thomas Poppelgaard. Posted in XenDesktop

Citrix have released a new cool tool for XenDesktop 4&5 (XenDesktop Session State Monitor Tool)

Description

The Session State Monitor Tool actively monitors ICA connections and disconnections to the Virtual Desktop Agent (VDA) on which it is running. The tool provides the ability to specify custom commands for Disconnect, Reconnect, and Startup. The tool also has the ability to allow the endpoint (client) name to smoothly roam with the VDA’s XenApp double-hop sessions. The tool does this by disconnecting the VDA to XenApp sessions, updating the appropriate registry key for ‘clientname’, and then reconnecting the disconnected VDA to XenApp sessions.

How to Use XenDesktop State Monitor Tool

Once the tool is installed and running as a background process, it automatically monitors the XenDesktop session for any disconnects and reconnects. It updates the endpoint’s client name on the session and runs any custom commands from the registry

Profile Management 3.2.2

Written by Thomas Poppelgaard. Posted in Profile Management

Citrix have released a new version of Profile Management 3.2.2

Citrix havent put up any informations whats in the new features, or which issues the 3.2.2 fixes.

What is Profile Management
Profile management (formerly known as User Profile Manager) ensures that the user’s personal settings are applied to the user’s virtual desktop and applications, regardless of the location and end point device with best reliability and performance.

Profile management is enabled through a profile optimization service that provides an easy, reliable way for managing these settings in Windows environments to ensure a consistent experience by maintaining a single profile that follows the user. It auto-consolidates and optimizes user profiles to minimize management and storage requirements and requires minimal administration, support and infrastructure, while providing users with improved logon and logout.

Profile management is available as a feature of XenApp Enterprise and Platinum editions and XenDesktop Advanced, Enterprise and Platinum editions. Customer entitlement to use this feature is based on Subscription Advantage as outlined in the EULA. Download usage rights of Profile management on previous versions of XenApp and XenDesktop are allowed per the terms of the EULA. Download is extended to Presentation Server 4.5 (Enterprise or Platinum editions) and XenDesktop 2.1 (Advanced, Enterprise and Platinum editions).  Please refer to the EULA as the final authority of usage rights

Hi Thomas,
Some features in your screenshots (eg create appointments and contacts) seem to be missing from the iOS version of @WorkMail that got released in April, do you know if these features are still coming in a future release? The Android client is far more functional by comparison.

Dan

You can see the DHCP options here:

http://www.wyse.com/kb and search for 21501

You can transfer a image using Wyse Device Manager(WDM), the same goes for smaller updates like new ICA client and so.

Thank you Barry =)
The deep compression codec for Citrix XenDesktop HDX 3D Pro will be intergrated for Citrix XenApp in Excalibur so there is a big difference with bandwidth consumption. This means that XenApp in Excalibur will be the best platform for user density and works great over WAN with high latency as HDX 3D Pro have been known to deliver for several years. Yes i know of cases with WAN optimization, I will gather these and share them.

Best regards
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Nice work! Awesome to see these results on XenApp! Is there any noticable difference between XA 6.5 and Excalibur that you are aware of? Do you have experience with WAN Optimization and how this helps to reduce bandwidth further?

Kind regards,

Barry
