Citrix have released Citrix XenApp 6.5 Feature Pack 1, this is a release i have been waiting for since 2011, because the some of the components are crucial in the way business is evolving and Feature Pack 1 for XA6.5 will help solve many print issues thats Citrix related and it will also speed up Unified Communication. Lets dig in whats new in XA 6.5 FP1:
New Fixes in This Release
This hotfix rollup pack introduces the following fixes that have not been previously released:
Universal Print Server
The Citrix Universal Print Server extends XenApp and XenDesktop Universal printing support to network printing. This feature eliminates the need to install numerous network printer drivers on XenApp and XenDesktop hosts, and enables more efficient network utilization. The new Citrix Universal printer driver supports direct network printing from any Citrix Receiver, supporting a wide range of Windows and non-Windows clients.
After you install the Universal Print Server components and configure the new policy settings, a user can add and enumerate network printers through the Windows Provider and Citrix Provider interfaces.
The Universal Print Server feature comprises a client component (UPClient) that you install on XenApp and XenDesktop hosts, and a server component (UPServer) that you install on a print server. You must also ensure that your XenApp and XenDesktop hosts and the computer where you use the Group Policy Management Console have the appropriate updates installed.
HDX RealTime Optimization Pack for Microsoft Lync 1.0
Citrix HDX RealTime Optimization Pack for Microsoft Lync offers clear, crisp high-definition video calls in conjunction with Microsoft Lync. Users can seamlessly participate in audio-video or audio-only calls to and from other HDX RealTime users and other standards-based video desktop and conference room systems.
Citrix HDX RealTime Connector for Microsoft Lync runs in both the Citrix XenDesktop virtual desktop and in the Citrix XenApp virtual application environments.
About HDX RealTime Optimization Pack for Microsoft Lync
Citrix HDX RealTime Optimization Pack for Microsoft Lync provides a highly scalable solution for delivering real-time audio-video conferencing through Microsoft Lync in XenDesktop and XenApp environments. HDX RealTime Optimization Pack leverages your existing Lync infrastructure and inter-operates with other Lync endpoints running natively on devices.
HDX RealTime Optimization Pack for Microsoft Lync consists of both client and server components:
- The client component, called Citrix HDX RealTime Media Engine, is integrated with the Citrix Receiver on the endpoint device and performs all signaling and media processing directly on the user device itself, offloading the server for maximum scalability, minimizing network bandwidth consumption and ensuring optimal audio-video quality.
- The server-side (and virtual desktop) component, Citrix HDX RealTime Connector for Microsoft Lync, is a connector to the Microsoft Lync client that drives the RealTime Media Engine on the endpoint. Connector runs in the virtual server environment alongside Microsoft Lync and communicates signaling information over a Citrix ICA virtual channel to the RealTime Media Engine running on the user device.
Citrix Mobility Pack support for VM Hosted Apps through XenDesktop 5.6 Feature Pack 1 Virtual Desktop Agent
With the new Mobility Pack, XenDesktop dynamically transforms the user interfaces of Windows desktops and applications to look and feel like the native user interface of smartphones and tablets. Now, your existing Windows applications adapt to the way users interact with applications on smaller devices without any source code changes. Previously, this technology was available only for XenApp.
